Casa Loto
Casa Loto Inc. is a binational 501(c)(3) non-profit charity in San Diego, created to strengthen LGBTQ+ youth programs and establish a community home in Mexico for displaced LGBTQ+ youth.
Casa Loto ("Lotus House") chose the lotus flower to represent the mission of new beginnings, hope, change, and renewed life. When youth come into our care, they thirst for love and a fresh start.
We can give children the opportunities they desire, and the possibility of a full and developed life. They deserve a home that they know is safe, inclusive, and supported by love. And they deserve the chance to grow into their full and beautiful realizations and achieve happiness.

LGBTQ+ Youth in need
In the United States, LGBTQ+ youth are more than twice as likely to experience homelessness as their non-LGBTQ+ peers. The conservative and religious underpinnings of households throughout the country give rise to this issue.
While identified LGBTQ+ youth make up only 9.5% of the total U.S. youth population, they comprise an astounding 40% of all young people experiencing homelessness in the United States, and they are disproportionately people of color.
LGBTQ+ youth often experience family rejection and find themselves alone, losing all sense of stability, with nobody to turn to for help and nowhere to call home.
With the tragedy of homelessness comes a host of secondary obstacles and difficulties. Losing a stable home environment, LGBTQ+ youth will experience higher rates of assault, trauma, exchange of sex for basic needs, and early death.
In Latin America, young people who identify as LGBTQ+ experience a magnified degree of discrimination, marginalization, and violence at the hands of family, peers, security forces, and gang members.
A Human Rights Watch report details how LGBTQ+ youth face a “complex web of violence and discrimination” that threatens their physical safety, limits their life choices, and ultimately throw them to the mercy of their surroundings.

"The issue is simple. LGBTQ children are a deeply impacted population and the least likely to receive the resources and assistance they need to survive. That which we do for the those most in need shows the depth of our compassion."
